New magazine of the Russian players’ union
In the beginning of March 2009 the Union of Football players and coaches of Russia produced the new magazine for the players and about the players. Regularly the Union will familiarize the magazine readers with the main problems of the Russian football industry, Union’s current activity, real facts of players’ and coaches’ rights violations and the joint actions of the Union and FIFPro directed on the development and improvement of the whole football industry.
The front page contains the main Russian player’s requirements:
1. Independent arbitration
2. Solidarity mechanism, with payments from each player’s transfer to the football school.
3. Player’s representation in the Football Union’s of Russia Executive Committee.
4. Minimal monthly salary after the age of 17.
5. Compulsory insurance covered by their employers.
6. Unlimited free agent status after the contract expiration.
7. Signing of the collective bargain agreement.
These requirements were stated on the Union’s flag that was presented to Mr. Mutko (President of FUR) on the Congress of the Football Union of Russia in Moscow. The flag was signed by the top Russian football players.
The first part of the magazine is dedicated to the history of FIFPro and the Russian Union, general information about the Union’s daily activity; membership information for Russian and foreign players, top players and coaches opinions about the Union.
The standing head ‘Union in action’ on pages 6-10 is about the Union’s suggestions regarding the improvement of the football players’ professional activity conditions. One of many examples of the Union’s activity is the letter by the Russian Professional Football Players (more than 200 players of the Russian Premier League of all 16 Premier League Clubs signed it) to the Football Union and the Football Premier League. The letter contains proposals that have to be included in the new Regulations on Status and Transfer of Players.
The head ‘Union in defense’ is dedicated to the real stories of the players’ and coaches’ rights violations and the Union’s actions regarding these issues. This part will be very useful especially for young inexperienced players, who are just starting their professional career.
Following the head ‘Union in defense’ on pages 10-14 an educational part called ‘Learn Foreign Languages’ explains to the players’ how important in the modern football world it is to have even basic knowledge of foreign languages and gives the essential examples of the useful words and phrases.
The magazine ends with a feature on the Unions nearest plans and deep concerns.
The Russian players’ union magazine will be published four times a year with a print run of 1500 copies.
